2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 BBCOR Bat

The Louisville Slugger Prime bat continues to be a best seller year after year, and the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 BBCOR bat is already the second best selling BBCOR bat of the 2019 BBCOR bat models, right behind the Marucci Cat 8 BBCOR.

This bat review is specifically for the BBCOR 919 Prime bat used by high school and college age players.

The Prime 919 BBCOR is a high end, two piece, 100% composite bat that sells for $449. Composite barrels generally have larger sweet spots than alloy barrels. Two piece bats almost always have much less vibration and stinging in the hands of the batter.

Pop and Performance

The pop and power coming off the 2019 Prime 919 is exceptional. In testing with high school age kids the speeds off the 2019 Prime BBCOR were on average 4 MPH faster than the next highest bat tested (2019 Rawlings Quatro Pro BBCOR). Swinging the bat myself, the 2019 Prime BBCOR does not fail to impress. The pop, sound, and speed of the ball off the barrel are excellent.

Balance and Feel

2019 Louisville Slugger BBCOR Prime and Select Mass Index

The Prime is a balanced bat, so it is easy to swing. The weight distribution is good for the vast majority of high school baseball players. The feel of the bat on contact is strong, solid, and smooth. We felt little to no sting or vibration on mishits near the end cap.

Bat Tech and Features

2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 VCX Tech

VCX Vibration Control Technology – Louisville Slugger’s connection piece is a patented device that allows for independent movement of the barrel and handle without touching each other. The free floating design prevents sting and vibration from reaching the handle, allowing you to swing freely, harder, and more comfortably than bats without similar tech.

Microform Composite – Slugger doesn’t go into detail on the composite material used for the Prime 919, except that it allows for the barrel to be light weight and strong.

New Grip – No more Lizard Skin grip. Louisville Slugger has a new grip with a pretty cool design and embossed “Louisville Slugger” text and logo outline.

The 2019 Prime 919 BBCOR bat is already a best seller for a reason. Like most of the high end, two piece composite bats, the Prime 919 is easy to swing, has little to no vibration, and absolutely kills the ball. The Prime 919 BBCOR gave the fastest MPH in recent tests with approximately 30 high school age baseball players.
