Marucci Cat 9 Composite Travel Baseball Bat - Changing The Game

Marucci has entered the composite game with the all new Marucci Cat 9 Composite Travel Ball bat for USSSA play. Marucci took their time to ensure the new Cat 9 Composite would not only perform, but be durable. DeMarini has lost tons of market share to Marucci in the past year – we have heard countless stories of former Zen users fed up with broken and cracked DeMarini bats. The Cat 9 Composite performed very well in our testing! As of writing this bat review, they have seen use by a few hundred youth baseball players at our facility, and thousands of hits with no issues.

Available for USSSA Travel Ball in -10, -8, -5 ounce, and a -10 ounce Junior Big Barrel

The Cat 9 Composite will also have a 1 year warranty against defects.

Marucci Cat 9 Composite MDX Material

New MDX Composite

The MDX Composite has more multi-directional patterns than competitors, and a barrel with so much pop we were breaking exit speed records on our Pocket Radar. Marucci is literally operated by current and former MLB players. Marucci holds their name to the highest degree of perfection they can possibly achieve. I have been to Baton Rouge and sat down with their CEO, Kurt Ainsworth, seen their wood bat manufacturing facility, and distribution centers. They do not compromise on the quality of their product, and that’s why it took them several years to drop the Cat 9 Composite baseball bat on the baseball world. MDX Composite is a new type of composite blend that they created (seriously) for this bat. Notably, unlike other top competitors, Marucci does NOT use rings in the barrel. Rings in the barrel are bad and create dead spots. It’s a lazy way of making bats, and Marucci will not compromise like their biggest competitors.

Marucci Cat 9 Composite Bat Connection

2 Piece Outer Locking System

Part of the magic of Marucci’s Cat 9 Composite bats is their totally different way of connecting the handle and barrel together. I don’t want this review to be too technical, so I’ll just say that these bats do not sting your hands on bad hits, even when using them in a cage with denser batting cage baseballs. Every swing is like butter.

Pop - Feel - Balance - Sound - Durability

Pop -The Marucci Cat 9 Composite pop is ridiculous. Our radar shows the pop on the Cat 9 Composite is unreal, and is better than the DeMarini CF and Marucci Cat 9 Connect by several MPH.

Feel – The bat feels solid. No power losing flex at all. There is zero vibration when hitting. It was easy to swing and the grip felt very natural in our hitter’s hands.

Balance – Marucci is saying this is a mid-balanced bat, and I’m sure it is, but I felt like the bat was balanced. Either way, the bat was not hard to swing and the bat speed that can be generated by this beast is insane.

Sound – Not that loud, actually. I’d say the sound was good for sure, but definitely not as loud as the metal Marucci Cat 9 and Cat 9 Connect.

Durability – Admittedly, we are early in the bat’s life cycle, but we have seen no paint chipping, no hairline cracks, and generally nothing that would concern us – keep in mind these bats have seen a ton of use already. This bat seems like it will no doubt be a suitable replacement for the borderline defective DeMarini CF Zen bat’s durability that so many have complained about.
