2015 Marucci CAT6 USSSA Bat Review
The senior-league CAT6 is the bat that put Marucci's one-piece alloy on the map in travel ball. Its AZ3000 aluminum and anti-vibration knob gave it a clean feel and a reputation for low sting that set the template for every CAT that followed.
The Score
How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
This bat: Ring-free AZ3000 barrel keeps a consistent, dead-spot-free sweet spot.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
This bat: Solid alloy pop, though a step behind later AZ105 CATs.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
This bat: The anti-vibration knob made this a low-sting standout for 2015.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
This bat: One-piece AZ3000 alloy is proven to take a full season of abuse.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
This bat: The original CAT remains a dependable budget alloy at closeout pricing.
Why this score: As the bat that started the CAT line, the CAT6 still scores well for its clean, low-sting, no-break-in alloy feel and durability. It trails newer CATs on raw barrel performance because of its older AZ3000 alloy, which is the main reason it sits below its successors.
Our Review
The 2015 Marucci CAT6 is the bat that launched the CAT dynasty, and this senior-league version brought its one-piece, 100% AZ3000 aluminum build to USSSA travel ball. The headline feature was its anti-vibration knob, which Marucci touted as dampening sting far better than the competition, paired with a ring-free barrel that kept performance consistent across the hitting surface. In a -8 with a 2 5/8" barrel it swings balanced and clean, hot from the first cut with no break-in. The AZ3000 alloy has since been surpassed by the AZ105 in later CATs, so raw pop and wall responsiveness trail the newer models, but as the foundation of the line it remains a smooth, durable, low-sting alloy bat that holds up to heavy use.
