Why this score: The B19 Hot Metal is a solid value BBCOR: durable, no-break-in, and loud off the barrel, with a sweet spot tuned up by CorTech. It scores below the premium field on raw power and feel because single-wall one-piece alloy can't match the top composites, but it earns its keep on durability and price.

Our Review

The 2019 Mizuno B19 Hot Metal is a one-piece, single-wall aluminum BBCOR bat built around Mizuno's Hot Metal alloy and CorTech technology, which varies the wall thickness across the barrel to create an aggressive, expanded sweet spot. An optimized end cap stretches the barrel and gives the bat its trademark booming sound, and the swing weight is balanced for easy control. As a single-wall, value-oriented alloy it is ready to perform out of the wrapper with no break-in and holds up well, but it carries the usual one-piece alloy trade-offs: a stiff, busy feel on mishits and top-end pop that trails the premium two-piece composites and hybrids in the BBCOR class. For a hitter who wants a dependable, loud, no-break-in alloy at a friendly price, the B19 is a sound choice.
