How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: Value leads on closeout pricing, with a long loaded barrel for solid power. The one-piece sting and older compression standard keep the overall modest.
Our Review
The Salvo has been Easton's value slowpitch workhorse for years, and the 2021 End Load is the loaded USSSA version of that line. It's a one-piece composite with a Fire Flex barrel and a 13-inch hitting zone, putting an end load behind a full-length barrel for hitters who want power without paying flagship money. Fire Flex is hot quickly, so the Salvo plays well right out of the wrapper. The 13-inch barrel keeps the sweet spot reasonably long even with the end load, making this a more forgiving power bat than a short-barrel bomber. As a one-piece it delivers direct feedback but will sting more than a two-piece on mishits. The bigger caveat is age: this is a 2021-generation bat on the older compression standard, so verify your association's current rules — many tournaments have moved to the 240 NTS spec. For casual league play on closeout pricing, the Salvo End Load remains a lot of bat for the money.
