How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: A dependable, balanced two-piece composite that does the fundamentals well and prices reasonably. It sits a step below the elite bats on pop and feel, but solid durability and closeout value lift its overall grade.
Our Review
The 2022 Echo is Marucci's mainstream two-piece composite fastpitch bat. Its MDX composite barrel uses a multi-directional weave for a responsive sweet spot and a lively sound, while Ring-Free construction lets the barrel flex more freely and removes dead spots across the hitting surface. An AV2 anti-vibration knob and soft-touch grip keep mishits comfortable. The swing is balanced and easy to handle, which makes it a solid fit for contact hitters and players moving up to a real composite. It plays close to ready out of the wrapper. It does not have the explosive top-end pop or the refined feel of the elite bats in the class, but it was priced well below them, and as a discontinued closeout it becomes a strong value for a dependable two-piece composite. Hitters chasing the best feel and pop should still start with the Easton Ghost.
