The CATX2 Connect is Marucci's latest take on the alloy-barrel, composite-handle hybrid, joining a thermally treated AZR barrel to a carbon handle through the SDX LT2 connection that dampens vibration and shifts weight slightly toward the end. In the -8 it adds up to a smooth, mass-forward bat that an advancing 12-13 year-old can drive through the zone, with notably comfortable feedback on mishits thanks to the two-piece joint. The barrel plays hot out of the wrapper, which is the CAT family's calling card. The honest caveats are price and fit: it costs more than the one-piece CATX2 alloy, and the end-loaded -8 only suits a bigger, stronger hitter, not a player still building bat speed.
