How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: The Xeno delivers a stiff, powerful swing that its fans value, earning solid pop and sweet-spot marks. It is held back by a specialized feel, and by durability and value that have not led the class at this price.
Our Review
The Xeno is one of the longest-running names in fastpitch, and the 2022 version stays true to the line's identity: a stiff, power-oriented two-piece composite. Its Dual-Disc S1iD barrel is ready out of the wrapper with no break-in, and the IST connection joins the barrel and handle rigidly, which is what makes the Xeno one of the stiffest, most direct-feeling bats in the category. In the lighter -10 and -11 drops it carries a slightly end-loaded feel that stronger hitters like, while the heavier -8 and -9 drops are popular power bats. On feel it is a love-it-or-leave-it bat — hitters who want flex and dampening should look elsewhere. The bigger reservations are durability and value: across the line the Xeno has not consistently matched the longevity of the best composites at its price, so the warranty matters. It can perform, but for most hitters chasing premium two-piece feel, pop and long-term value we would point to our top fastpitch pick first.
Also worth a look: Easton Ghost Unlimited — our top fastpitch pick - benchmark feel and pop, with stronger durability and warranty support.
