2022 Rawlings 5150 USA Baseball Bat Review
The 5150 is Rawlings's workhorse alloy USA bat: a one-piece aerospace-alloy barrel with honest pop, a light balanced swing and a price that makes it one of the best entry-level values in the category.

How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: Value is the headline - few USA bats deliver this much dependable performance for the money, so it scores highest, with durability close behind for a one-piece alloy. The balanced swing earns a strong mark. Sweet spot, feel and power are honest mid-pack figures for an entry-level single-wall bat.
Our Review
The 2022 Rawlings 5150 USA is a no-nonsense one-piece bat built from the brand's 5150 aerospace-grade alloy with a straight-wall barrel and pOp 2.0 tuning for a forgiving sweet spot. There is no break-in, no fragile composite to baby and no premium price tag - just a durable, ready-to-go alloy bat with honest pop and a light, balanced -11 swing that fits younger and developing Little League hitters. As a one-piece alloy it gives more feedback on mishits than a two-piece composite, and it does not produce the top-end exit velocity of a $300 composite barrel, but that is not what it is for. For a first real travel or rec bat, or a dependable backup, the 5150 is one of the most sensible buys in USA baseball.
