How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: The Ghost Advanced is our fastpitch benchmark and scores highest in the class for sweet spot, power and feel. The only marks held back are value, owing to the top-of-class price, and durability, which is good but historically the line's lone weak point.
Our Review
The 2024 Ghost Advanced is everything that made the Ghost the standard in fastpitch, refined. Its second-generation Double Barrel 2 construction pairs a low-compression outer barrel with a lightweight inner barrel for maximum allowed performance with a balanced swing, and Sonic Comp Max, Easton's highest-performing composite, brings the pop and the unmistakable Ghost sound while improving durability. The sweet spot is enormous and the ConneXion Evolution connection plus the Power Boost soft knob keep vibration almost nonexistent, even on inside pitches. Out of the wrapper it already plays hot, with minimal break-in needed. It is the most expensive bat in the category at full MSRP, and Ghost durability has historically been the one knock on the line, so the warranty matters. But on feel, sweet spot and pure performance, nothing in fastpitch does it better. This is the bat every other fastpitch bat gets compared to, and it remains our top pick.
