2027 Easton Hammer Slowpitch Bat Review
Easton's entry loaded alloy for slowpitch: one piece of ALX75 with a 12" barrel, end-loaded, and stamped for every major sanctioning body. At $59.99 it is a league bat, not a tournament bat, and it doesn't pretend otherwise.
The Score
How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: First-pass score, clearly labeled: no independent exit-velocity data yet for the 2027 edition. Anchored to the 2024 Rebel/Rival ALX-alloy baseline: entry single-wall alloy sweet spot and power, strong durability, value high for a $59.99 bat with every stamp. Sub-$175 non-wood ceiling applies.
Our Review
The Hammer is the bottom rung of Easton's 2027 slowpitch alloy ladder and the one most rec-league players will actually meet first. It is a single piece of ALX75 aluminum with a 12" barrel and a loaded balance point, offered in 32"/25oz, 33"/26oz and 34"/28oz. Easton lists it as approved for USA (ASA), USSSA, NSA, ISA and WBSC play, which is the Hammer's real selling point: one $60 bat that is legal in every Tuesday-night league in town. Performance is what a budget single-wall alloy delivers. The barrel is stiff, the sweet spot is compact, and exit speeds trail the double-wall composites this league's better hitters carry by a wide margin. The end-load does help a hitter who doesn't generate much bat speed keep the barrel moving through contact. Durability is the strong suit; there is nothing in a one-piece alloy to crack or delaminate, and the bat plays the same in April as in August. Buy it as a team bat or a first bat. Step up to the Ronin 240 if you want real barrel response from an alloy.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Every stamp that matters (USA/ASA, USSSA, NSA, ISA, WBSC) at the lowest price in the line
- One-piece alloy is ready on swing one and shrugs off cold weather
- End-load helps a casual swing finish through the ball
Cons
- ALX75 is Easton's entry alloy; the sweet spot is small and the response is flat compared with the Ronin or any composite
- Only three sizes (32/25, 33/26, 34/28)
- Hand sting on inside mishits, as with any one-piece budget alloy
