2018 Easton Ghost X Hyperlite USA Baseball Bat Review
Easton's lightest-swinging USA bat from the Ghost X family, the Hyperlite -11 was built for young hitters who need maximum bat speed. A one-piece composite with the X-tended barrel that gave the Ghost X its oversized sweet spot.
The Score
How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
This bat: X-tended composite barrel gives an oversized, forgiving sweet spot.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
This bat: USA standard and light build keep raw pop modest by design.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
This bat: EXACT carbon one-piece build keeps the hands comfortable.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
This bat: One-piece composite holds up but isn't as bombproof as alloy.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
This bat: A strong pick for young hitters who need pure bat speed.
Why this score: The Ghost X Hyperlite nails its mission as a bat-speed-first USA bat: an ultra-light swing, a big forgiving barrel, and comfortable composite feel. It scores lower on power because the light build and USA standard intentionally limit mass and pop, which is exactly the trade younger hitters want.
Our Review
The 2018 Easton Ghost X Hyperlite was the speed model of the Ghost X line, a one-piece composite USA bat tuned to be one of the lightest in any dugout. In the -11 with a 2 5/8" barrel, it is built for younger or smaller hitters who get more out of a faster swing than out of added mass. It uses Easton's EXACT carbon technology to dampen vibration while the X-tended barrel design pushes the sweet spot long, giving it the most forgiving hitting surface in the Ghost X family. The flip side of that featherweight swing is limited mass behind the ball, so a stronger hitter transitioning to more weight will quickly outgrow it, and the USA standard keeps overall pop in check versus the big-barrel USSSA version. For its intended young user, though, the Hyperlite is exactly the easy, fast-swinging bat it set out to be.
