Why this score: Value and swing weight lead because the bat is discounted and the 12-inch barrel swings quick. Power is solid on the loaded Fire Flex barrel. Sweet spot is the lowest mark due to the short barrel length.

Our Review

The Tiphoon is one of the lesser-known entries in Easton's deep Fire Flex catalog, built on a 12-inch barrel with a loaded end-weight for USSSA play. The short barrel concentrates the mass and pulls the balance point inward, so even with the load it swings quicker than a 13.5-inch bat, which appeals to hitters who want end-load power without a long, whippy profile. The Fire Flex barrel is Easton's reactive composite layup that earned the line its reputation for being hot out of the wrapper. The trade-off of the short barrel is a smaller sweet-spot length, so contact precision matters more than on Easton's longer slowpitch bats. It is approved for USSSA, ISA and NSA play. Now a closeout item, it is a budget route into a loaded Fire Flex for a hitter who values a compact swing.
