2023 Easton Resmondo Mother Load Slowpitch Bat Review
The 2023 Easton Resmondo Mother Load is the heaviest-swinging Resmondo, a two-piece Fire Flex USSSA bat with a 12.5-inch barrel and a full one-ounce end load for max-distance power hitters.
The Score
How we score ↗How big and forgiving the barrel is — based on barrel length, construction (one- vs two-piece, alloy vs composite), and how it plays on balls hit off the center. A primary driver of the overall score.
Raw exit velocity and distance. We use measured numbers from freely available independent testing when they exist; otherwise construction and consensus, judged against the certification’s performance ceiling. A primary driver of the overall score.
Comfort and feedback on contact — vibration dampening from the knob/connection, the sting of a stiff one-piece vs a smooth two-piece, and the sound off the barrel. A primary driver of the overall score.
How well it holds up and how the company stands behind it — documented cracking/denting reports, cold-weather behavior, and the brand’s real warranty record. Good to know, but weighted lightly in the score.
Our take on price-for-performance — the overall package weighed against its cost and what comparable bats run. Shown for context; it is NOT factored into the overall score (price changes too often and is personal).
Why this score: Power leads the way thanks to the full one-ounce load and Fire Flex barrel. The heavy swing weight and shorter barrel pull down swing-weight and sweet-spot scores for anyone but dedicated bombers.
Our Review
Where the balanced Resmondo chases plate coverage, the 2023 Mother Load chases distance. It stacks a full one-ounce end load behind a 12.5-inch Fire Flex barrel, making it the most aggressive swing weight in the 2023 Resmondo family. The mass out toward the end cap rewards hitters who can keep their bat speed up and drive through the ball; for those players the payoff is the kind of carry that turns warning-track flies into home runs. The two-piece ConneXion+ construction means the Mother Load still dampens vibration better than a pure one-piece, and Fire Flex gives it pop without a long break-in. The catch is the same one that comes with any heavy end load: hitters with average or below-average bat speed will feel the bat drag and lose barrel control. The shorter 12.5-inch barrel also trims the sweet spot relative to the 13.5-inch balanced version. This is a specialist's bat — a great fit for committed power hitters, a poor fit for everyone else.
Pros & Cons
Pros
- Full one-ounce end load delivers serious distance for strong swingers
- Fire Flex composite is hot with minimal break-in
- Two-piece build still keeps some sting out of the hands
Cons
- Heavy end load is punishing for hitters with slower bat speed
- 12.5-inch barrel has a smaller sweet spot than the balanced 13.5-inch model
