Why this score: Power and feel are strong thanks to the loaded alloy barrel and the dampened outer-locking connection. Durability is high as a hybrid with an alloy barrel. Swing weight scores lower because of the loaded balance. Value is the standout now that the bat is heavily discounted against the newer CATX2 Connect.

Our Review

The CATX Connect brings Marucci's hybrid power formula to travel ball: an AZR alloy barrel tied to an S-40 composite handle by a stiff outer-locking connection that channels energy to the ball while wiping out vibration on contact. Marucci tunes the barrel profile so the end-load is slightly tempered, giving a young hitter some of the loaded power without an unmanageable swing, though it still rewards strength and timing more than a balanced bat would. As a hybrid with an alloy barrel it is hot out of the wrapper with no break-in. Now a generation behind the CATX2 Connect, it is steeply discounted. The loaded feel is still wrong for a small or speed-first hitter, but for a strong travel player who wants pop and a smooth, dampened connection, the discounted CATX Connect is a strong value.

Pros & Cons

  • A generation behind the current CATX2 Connect
